EU-compliant Devices Providing Unprecedented Sensor Networking Range and Robustness Available as OEM Radio Modules or Completed Sensor Products
NEEDHAM, MA and LONDON, UK - May 24, 2005 - Sensicast Systems, provider of wireless sensor networking products and solutions, announced the latest addition to its Modular Interchangeable Networking Device (MIND) platform today at the Wireless Connectivity World conference. The new A2400 family of products is available as electronics modules for OEMs and as completed industrial products for system integrators. The 2.4GHz mesh sensor networking products are ultra-reliable due to added radio power amplification and radio channel agility, while still running for years on a single battery. Due to their 2.4GHz frequency and their patent-pending Distributed Frequency Spread Spectrum (DFSS) modulation techniques, they are approved for use within the European Union.
The A2400 products are ZigBee-ready and fully compatible with SensiNet, Sensicast's industrial-strength mesh networking protocol. When used with SensiNet, the products deliver the most reliable wireless communications for sensors in difficult environments such as factories, refineries, power plants and other environments where interference is a major issue.
"Our 2.4 GHz offerings present robust new options for all of our customers, but they represent an especially important development for the European marketplace. Only with DFSS, our frequency diversity technology, can customers utilize radios with this much effective power within the regulatory restrictions of that market," said Peter Stein, vice president marketing Sensicast Systems. "Our OEMs and end customers will find that these new radios, when used with our MIND platform, bring limitless opportunity for creating powerful sensor networks that can function well in the harshest of environments."
Completed industrial products in the A2400 line include a temperature and humidity sensor, various RTD sensor nodes, a current sensing 4-20mA analog node and a 0-10V analog node and are available for order immediately. An RS232/RS485 serial device will be available in Q4. All completed products are remotely configurable via the sensor network.
"We have been using Sensicast's H900 product family (operating at 900 MHz) for steam-pipe temperature monitoring. The range and reading reliability we receive through the entire mesh network has been incredible. The SensiNet networking allows the network to self-organize for very simple installation. And since we continuously move the sensor network from plant to plant, it must work every time with little or no troubleshooting. For worldwide deployments, we have already ordered and are eagerly anticipating delivery of the A2400 family of products," says Bernie Zabek representing GE Energy.
The A2400 devices utilize Sensicast's unique Distributed Frequency Spread Spectrum (DFSS) radio modulation technology. Applying frequency diversity to standard, IEEE 802.15.4 radio chips increases the reliability of each radio transmission because the nodes hunt across radio bands automatically to find clear channels, avoiding radio nulls, reducing interference dramatically and creating a much more reliable mesh network. Combined with the radio amplifier on the A2400 devices, this provides the Sensicast products with an effective power amplification of hundreds of times that of competing mesh networks.
Sensicast's MIND platform is a flexible, extensible platform for OEMs and end customers to quickly develop and deploy powerful wireless sensor solutions with a choice of frequencies, sensors, applications, and networking protocols. The platform is also supported by Sensimesh Gateway software, which provides seamless integration into enterprise networks for real-time visibility and control from any device in any place.
